A blue carbon flagship along the Kenyan coast
Papariko spans 1,500 hectares of degraded mangrove ecosystem across Kwale and Kilifi. The project is co-designed and co-managed with coastal communities, and is the first blue carbon initiative in Kenya to pass through Verra’s full validation process.
Planting started in 2022 and is scheduled through 2028. Carbon credit issuance is expected from 2027, following completion of the third-party verification cycle, with issuances planned across the project’s 40-year crediting horizon.
